Good news for Doctor Who fans: you'll be able to experience the return of River Song on the big screen this Christmas.
This year's Doctor Who Christmas special will hit about 300 theaters in the United States, BBC America announced today. The episode will play on December 28 and 29 at 7:30 pm local time, and the event will also feature a 15 minute behind-the-scenes featurette.
This episode will see the return of Alex Kingston as River Song, the Doctor's time traveling wife who has not appeared since Peter Capaldi joined the series. The description for the Christmas special reads, "It’s Christmas Day in the future and the TARDIS is parked on a snowy village street, covered in icicles, awaiting its next adventure. Time traveler River Song meets her husband’s new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas."
One slight damper on the festivities is that Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald will have left the show just a few weeks prior, and many fans speculate that she will be the first companion of the modern series to die. We'll find out during her final appearance on December 5.
Tickets for the Doctor Who Christmas special event go on sale on the Fathom Events website on November 13.
