The Federal Aviation Administration diverted flights arriving to the San Diego-Lindbergh Field Airport on Wednesday as it was reported that there was an active shooter in the area.
The Wall Street Journal reported that while departing flights were allowed to fly out of the airport, inbound flights were not until around 1:30 p.m. local time.
Some of the airlines that had to deal with grounded or diverted flights included Southwest, Delta and United Continental.
ABC News noted that the airport was forced to partially seize operations when it was alerted that a man at a San Diego apartment complex was firing shots with a high-powered weapon.
The incident began when police responded to a domestic violence dispute and shots were fired first inside the complex, then up on the rooftop where the suspect was apprehended, Lt. Scott Wahl said.
A nearby school was also put on lockdown earlier just as a precaution. Police said that there were no injuries to report and operations at the airport have returned to normal.
