The Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot now officially has its new mad scientist.
Felicia Day has been cast in the Mystery Science Theater revival, according to the project's official Kickstarter page. Day will be playing Kinga Forrester, daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester from the original series.
Joel Hodgson wrote on Kickstarter that he wanted the character to be funny but also truly threatening. He described Day as "kind of a goof," but noted that there's a manic side to her that will allow her to pull off the crazy vibe he's looking for.
There's no official deal in place for Day yet, as the whole project is still in its early developmental stage, but at this point it seems her involvement is just about guaranteed.
The new Mystery Science Theater has also cast Hampton Yount as Crow T. Robot and Baron Vaughn as Tom Servo. The two young comedians were recommended by Jonah Ray, who will play the host of the series.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 launched a Kickstarter page last week, and it has already raised $2.6 million. That amount guarantees the production of three episodes and if they can raise $5.5 million by Dec.12, they'll be able to produce a full 12 episodes. Those will then be shopped around to interested networks for a possible series pickup.
