American Horror Story has just been picked up for a sixth season, FX said today.

The new season will air next year, but creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk didn’t announce a title or theme for the new season of the anthology series.

“From Murder House to Hotel, AHS has pioneered a new television form as well as becoming FX’s highest-rated show — while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity,” FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said in a statement. “This is even more remarkable because Ryan and co-creator Brad Falchuk tear up the playbook every year, challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining. You could not ask more of an artist, their team or a series and with every new installment they deliver.”

According to TVByTheNumbers, AHS’ current season, Hotel, has averaged a 3.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic in Live+3 numbers, along with 6.9 million total viewers.

The next episode of Hotel airs on Wednesday at 10 p.m. The cast for this season has included Lady Gaga, Chloe Sevigny, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates.

AHS has received 13 Emmy Awards and Jessica Lange won a Golden Globe in 2012.

Murphy is also working on American Crime Story for FX and has Scream Queens on Fox.
