With four episodes left of its second season, FX has renewed Noah Hawley’s acclaimed Fargo for a third season.
Fargo has maintained critical acclaim, even into its second season, which was a prequel of sorts to the first one. In season two, Patrick Wilson stars as a young Lou Solverson and is on a murder case during the 1970s. Other members of the season two cast include Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Ted Danson, Cristin Milioti, Jean Smart, Brad Garrett and Nick Offerman.
Season one was one of FX’s biggest hits with audiences, critics and within the industry. It won Golden Globes for Best Mini-Series/Made-For-TV Movie and Best Actor in a Mini-Series/Made-For-TV Movie (Billy Bob Thornton); and Emmys for Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Casting and Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries.
“Year two of Fargo is an extraordinary achievement and, given Noah Hawley’s masterful storytelling, we can’t wait to see where the third, all-new version of Fargo takes us,” FX Networks and FX Productions co-president of original programming Eric Schrier said today. “Our thanks to Noah, Warren, Joel & Ethan, John and our partners at MGM Television for making Fargo such a memorable and rewarding journey.”
The series is inspired by Joel & Ethan Coen’s Oscar-winning film Fargo, but Hawley also includes other nods to the Coen Brothers film universe. The brothers are executive producers on the show, along with Hawley, Warren Littlefield and John Cameron.
Hawley will be returning for the third season, which will focus on another Coen-inspired crime.
Fargo airs on Mondays at 10 p.m.
