On this week's episode of How to Get Away with Murder, Bonnie goes MIA, Asher suspects that the D.A. is using a wiretap to get ahead of Annalise, and major developments arise in the Hapstall case.
After the D.A. gets shot, a fight erupts between Connor and the rest of the group. Bonnie intervenes with a threat, then disposes of the gun.
Two weeks earlier, Bonnie recalls her fight with Annalise while in the shower. Simultaneously, Annalise reaches out to her mother via text. She receives a message back, but it’s from Nate. He’s outside waiting. Annalise lets him in.
Philip shows up at Oliver and Connor’s and Oliver panics. He apologizes to Philip for trying to con him and asks Philip not to kill him. Philip says he's not going to hurt him, he just wants to talk.
Laurel and Frank clash on the car ride home.
Nate and Annalise talk. Nate is upset and doesn’t know why he just dropped in on Annalise. Annalise realizes that he’s drunk and looking for sexual comfort, but refuses to give it to him. She lets him stay the night on the couch.
Connor arrives home to find Oliver gone. He goes back to Annalise’s to inform the group of this new development. Upon hearing about Oliver’s sudden absence, the group disagrees on how they should handle things — call it in as a missing person or wait. Just as Nate prepares to phone the station, Oliver returns... with Philip.
Oliver explains how he tried to talk to Philip about the Hapstall case, but ultimately decided to bring him to Annalise, who could approach the situation more effectively. Philip claims he’s aware Annalise thinks he’s a suspect and he’s innocent. He also believes Annalise should take the blame. Annalise is willing to settle on a deal with Philip to prevent him from talking to the cops.
Annalise could get nailed for cyberstalking, harassment, and invasion of privacy charges, so the only logical thing is to destroy all proof of the alleged crimes. At the same time, Michaela doubts Philip’s innocence, so Oliver offers up a straw Philip used at their “date” and suggests the group take it to DNA testing.
The next day, Annalise appoints Laurel as the “new Bonnie,” since Bonnie hasn’t showed up for work. The group needs those DNA results.
Frank and Asher set out to obtain the DNA results while Connor tries to convince Oliver to destroy his laptop and clear his attachment to the case. Oliver hesitates, so Connor does it for him.
Nate keeps tabs on Philip.
Annalise calls Bonnie to apologize. At the same time, Michaela wonders how she should handle Caleb since he keeps calling for updates. She, Annalise, and the others wind up going to the Hapstall mansion and informing them about looking into Philip. If Philip’s DNA matches the DNA found at the crime scene, then the charges against Caleb and Catherine will be dropped.
The D.A. offers the Hapstall siblings a plea deal; they’ll get 15 years each. The offer is good until 5 p.m. Annalise convinces them not to take it, but Caleb is resistant.
Asher is concerned about Bonnie.
Laurel gets a call from Catherine, who wants to see Wes. Wes tries to get Catherine to take the plea while Annalise sends Michaela to persuade Caleb to do otherwise. Later conversations between Annalise and her students evolve into fights.
Frank tries to persuade a woman at the testing center to obtain the DNA results on Philip. Asher suspects that the D.A. wiretapped Annalise’s house after he refused to testify and is using the bugs to gain intel.
Annalise needs her students to find evidence that will nail Philip. Catherine calls, saying she’s taking the plea deal. Annalise and Michaela rush over to the mansion to get her to change her mind.
Asher’s suspicions are confirmed and he’s able to locate a bug in Annalise’s house. The group uses it to their advantage. Annalise manages to get the plea deal thrown out.
Nate informs Annalise that Philip is at the precinct giving his statement. Nate overhears conversation labeling Philip as “schizo,” so he does some snooping on the police computers.
Laurel and Frank fight.
Caleb calls. He wants to take the deal. With court in an hour, the group has to work quickly to clear Caleb and his sister of their charges.
Later, Frank comes through with the DNA results which indicate a 99.4 percent match on Philip’s DNA and that of the crime scene. No plea deal is to be made.
Frank and Laurel make up, while Connor and Oliver get intimate at the lecture hall.
Wes receives a painting from Catherine.
Michaela visits Caleb and they hook up. Annalise won their case, so Caleb doesn’t have to keep his distance anymore.
Annalise and Wes reconcile, but their moment is interrupted by Wes. He recognizes a painting similar to his in a photo of Philip.
Caleb panics when he finds a gun hidden in a vent and shows Michaela.
Catherine meets with Philip. Philip says he’s taking care of things for her.
