Following reports that Stephen Colbert is alienating some viewers, Jimmy Kimmel has managed to beat him for another week.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, for the week of Nov. 16, Jimmy Kimmel Live averaged a .58 rating among adults 18-49. In comparison, Colbert's Late Show scored a .56 rating for that same period of time. Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show crushed all the competition, averaging a 1.0. At this point, it's really a race for the #2 spot.
This continues a winning streak for Kimmel, who first started beating Colbert earlier this month. Part of that may be due to Kimmel's recent slate of guests, as this past week alone he interviewed Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Krysten Ritter and the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He also premiered the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War, one of the many benefits of ABC being owned by Disney.
However, though Kimmel won the important 18-49 demographic, Colbert's Late Show still averaged a greater number of overall viewers. Clearly the new Late Show is far from a disaster, then, but one possible concern for CBS is the recent report that Colbert may be losing Republican viewers. The host attracts mainly Democrats, but Kimmel and Fallon appeal to both sides of the aisle, something that CBS will likely be pushing Colbert to fix in the coming months.
