Last year, running back Ray Rice made headlines over a domestic violence incident with his then-fiancée in an Atlantic City casino elevator. This year, Dallas Cowboys’ defensive end Greg Hardy also made headlines when charges for a domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend were expunged on the same day pictures of what she looked like after she said he attacked her were released. Now, Rice is offering his advice to Hardy.
While on WFAN’s “Boomer & Carton Show”, the former running back talked about what he believes Hardy should do after what has transpired.
“One thing I would encourage Greg [to do] is to take a deeper look into what the severity of domestic violence is. It’s better late than never,” he said.
Unlike Hardy, Rice has shown remorse for what occurred in that elevator in February 2014 and has apologized several times for punching and knocking out his now-wife.
“You have to be sincere in your actions,” he continued when speaking about Hardy. “Show it on and off the field. Take that uniform and use it for what it’s worth. You don’t have to win another football game, you don’t need another dollar to go out and make a difference in other peoples’ lives.”
Rice was cut by the Baltimore Ravens after the casino video surfaced. He was suspended by the league and although that suspension has ended, he has not been signed by another team.
Hardy meanwhile, was suspended by the league for 10 games, but had it reduced to four and signed a one-year, $11.3 million contract with the Cowboys. He remains with the team and did not receive any disciplinary action after the photos were made public.
