The last season of American Idol will be more about celebrating the show’s legacy than trying to find one last singer to turn into a superstar. Host Ryan Seacrest pretty much confirmed that this week when he said that all former judges will be back on the show.
“We will have the former judges back,” Seacrest told E! News. “The plan is to have all of them back. They've all considered it and I think are enthusiastic about coming back and saluting the show.”
Seacrest also confirmed this to Access Hollywood, but said that there are no firm plans for what they will actually do on the stage together.
The group of former judges would have to include the original trio of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Ellen DeGeneres, Steven Tyler and Kara DioGuardi were also judges and the current panel includes Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr.
It will be interesting to see if Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey would come back, since they both made it clear that they did not enjoy their brief time on the show.
Idol’s 15th and final season kicks off on Fox on Jan. 6.
