November 2 saw the new episode of Supergirl on CBS, "Stronger Together." Can Supergirl overcome bad press and become the hero she wants to be? Read on to find out.

The show starts with Kara out-flying missiles in a test mission for the DEO. They’re training her to make sure she’s in full control of her powers. She completes the test and tells Alex she’s ready.

Winn calls Kara to tell her about a bad fire at the National City port. She gets there and tries to blow it out, but makes it worse. An oil tanker is pulled up to the dock and the firemen are worried about it exploding. Kara tries to move the boat instead, but in her hurry, she cracks the hull and causes an oil spill.

The press has a field day with Kara’s mistake. In an interview with Maxwell Lord, he says that Supergirl will bring trouble to National City. Even Cat Grant says she’s been a terrible superhero. James speaks up saying that Superman made mistakes at first too. Cat says she’s sloppy and awkward. Cat wants to try to scoop the Daily Planet and asks James to set her up with an interview by exploiting his friendship with Superman. She wants the interview by the end of the week.

Kara tells James she won’t do the interview. She says Cat will recognize her. James says she won’t recognize her because she doesn’t see her now. He says Superman is able to hide because people can’t believe there’s a hero in their midst. James says he can handle Cat about the interview.

A security guard sees a man at a DDT tank in the chemical factory who isn’t supposed to be there. He pulls his gun and tries to stop him, but the man shows himself as an alien and attacks and kills him.

The DEO examines the crime scene with Kara. Hank tells Alex that the man might have been stealing chemicals for a bomb. Kara finds a projectile from the alien and remembers her mother telling her about a Helgrimite alien that she put away in prison. Kara read about the projectile. She tells Alex and Hank what they’re looking for. She says he’s a large shape-shifting insect. She says she can take him out, but Hank says she has to prove herself first.

Alex brings Kara into a training room and turns on Kryptonite emitters to prove to Kara that she’s not ready. She says Kara needs to be prepared to face anyone. She tells Kara she needs to use an opponent’s strength against them. She then fights Kara and wins. Kara is upset and stalks off. Alex tells Hank that she hates that he made her do that. He says she may have just saved Kara’s life.

Cat’s newest article for the Tribune is a negative story about Supergirl’s ecological disaster. Kara asks why she keeps criticizing Supergirl for trying to help. Cat says women have to work twice as hard to be considered as good as a man. Kara asks what Cat would suggest Supergirl do. Cat says she should calm down and start small.

Kara asks Winn to meet her in the alley in five minutes. When he goes out, he finds James. They both try to convince each other to leave, thinking they’ll be in the way to meet with Kara as Supergirl. They’re surprised when she arrives that they each know the truth. She tells them she needs to practice by starting small and getting better. She says she’ll need their help.

The Helgrimite from the factory is attacked by two of Astra’s men. They say he should’ve stayed hidden, but he tells them to tell Astra that he’d rather go it alone. They say to tell her himself and she appears. He says he doesn’t want to be a part of what they’re planning. Astra tells him he’ll be bait to capture Supergirl.

Winn and James send Kara to an armed robbery at a pizza place. She stops it. Next they send her to help an ambulance stuck in traffic get a heart attack victim to a hospital. Winn reminds her to take it easy with the ambulance. The press starts to turn positive for Supergirl. Kara thanks James and Winn.

Alex asks Kara to talk. She thinks it was a bad idea for Kara to tell her friends who she is. Kara says she’s allowed to have friends. Alex apologizes for ambushing her at the DEO. She says she was looking out for her. Kara says Alex is out risking her life every day and Kara still trusts her. She asks for the same in return. Alex gets a call from the DEO and leaves.

Hank tells Alex that the Helgrimite has attacked six chemical plants over the last year on his way to National City. He thinks the alien is building a weapon of mass destruction, but another agent says they tested the Helgrimite’s blood and found his DNA has a chlorine foundation. He eats DDT. Alex says his food source is shrinking. Hank comes up with a plan to catch him.

Cat asks James how the hunt for the interview is going. James says he has a policy against using his friends for business reasons. Cat says she has a policy against losing. She tells him he has 24 hours or he’s fired.

The DEO agents drive a truckload of DDT down the highway with another truck traveling behind it. The Helgrimite drops onto the DDT truck and the agents behind him start firing. The Helgrimite shoots Hank and Alex with his stinger projectiles, then rips through the roof stealing Alex and flying away.

Kara comes to James and says she’ll do the interview so he doesn’t get fired. He says everyone knows who he is because of his friendship with Superman. He was hoping to escape it when he moved there. He wants to be his own man. Kara says the family motto is “stronger together.” She says she doesn’t want to work alone like Superman. She says part of being your own man is knowing when to accept help. Kara gets a call that Alex was kidnapped.

Kara yells at Hank for not letting her be there for the mission. She asks him if he has a family. He says he did. He says they’re searching for Alex. Kara wants to help. She flies around listening for Alex’s voice.

The Helgrimite brings Alex to Astra and says Kara didn’t show. Alex calls her Alura and says she saw her in her daughter’s message from Krypton. Astra tells her who she really is. Alex says there’s no reason for her to kill anyone in National City. Astra says she’s there to save them. Alex says Supergirl will find her. Kara hears her and heads her way, calling Hank that she found her.

Alex tells Kara it’s a trap. Astra attacks Kara. Kara thought Astra died when Krypton exploded. She’s confused. Astra says she was in prison on Fort Roz. Astra says Alura imprisoned her for speaking the truth and trying to save Krypton. Astra tells Kara her alliance with the humans is misplaced and asks Kara to join her. She refuses and they fight. Alex calls Hank, but is attacked by the Helgrimite. She fights him and stabs him with his own stinger, killing him. Kara uses Astra’s strength against her and sends her flying. She comes back with superbreath. Hank appears and stabs Astra with a knife made of kryptonite. She flies away in pain.

Back at the DEO, Alex is treated for her wounds. Alex says it must be hard for Kara finding out she still has family after all this time. Kara says Alex is her family and they need to stop her aunt. She wants to be ready for her next time and asks Alex to train her. Alex says she has faith in Kara. She tells her she’s always had the heart of a hero. She tells Kara that Superman communes with his ancestors in his fortress in the arctic. She has Kara scan her hand to get into a special room where they’ve set up an interactive artificial intelligence based on living memory. Kara can speak to it in the form of her mother. Alex leaves Kara to speak with her. Kara asks about Astra.

Alex thanks Hank for helping her set up the room. He says it’s the least he could do. As he walks away, his eyes glow red.

Another alien removes the blade from Astra. He says it’s not from this planet and does a scan. He finds it’s made from a radioactive element from her home planet. She says it’s still making her sick and makes him take it from the room.

Cat calls James to move up the deadline on the interview with Supergirl. He says it’s already begun and tells her to look out her window. Her car is in the air. Kara flies her to the top of a roof and hovers above her for questioning.
