Straight out of Burbank Alt-rockers give a voice to the voiceless
The experimental power-synth sound of alternative-rock band THE CITIE leaves one feeling empowered. THE CITIE, a fiercely independent socialite-styling band based out of Burbank, California, cites influences from a colorful palette of artists ranging from Kanye West and Cage the Elephant to the fundamental Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
As a close knit family of cousins and coworkers THE CITIE consists of singer Sofia Cohen, drummer Jona Cohen, lead guitarist Adrian Cohen, bassist Daniel Cohen and rhythm guitarist Casey Sandino.
“Be strong, Be a Citizen.”
Between majors in business law and communications at Los Angeles' Valley College and California State University, this band is a working family; living together under one roof as they finish their degree and gain valuable work experience in the music industry.
“THE CITIE was put together to involve our community,” the band said in a video in April. “Moving forward we are engaging a whole world. We would like to influence our audience and community by representing those who have no voice."
The biggest challenge the group has faced, said one of the Cohens, is the issue of time management and scheduling. “It can be pretty hairy working around everyone’s schedules. All in all we make it work and always have a story to tell along the way.”
THE CITIE is surely a collective of social media-savvy millennials, coming up with the hashtag #IMACITIZEN to bring the community closer together and engage with the rest of the world by providing a voice for the voiceless.
With #IMACITIZEN, the band hopes to establish citizens for the CITIE with their upcoming EP, due early next year, and a performance at DOV Fest in Santa Barbara in March.
