A popular film series and character are resurrected at the box office this weekend. Mary Shelly’s monster comes to life again on the big screen while Sylvester Stallone reprises his role in a Rocky follow-up.
The son of Rocky Balboa’s late rival turned friend enters the ring in Creed. Having never met his father, Adonis Johnson heads to Philadelphia to learn more about his legacy. With dreams of becoming a successful boxer, he enlists the help of his father’s friend. Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan and Phylicia Rashad star in the PG-13 drama. The film runs for one hour and thirty-five minutes.
Set in a time where dinosaurs and humans roamed the earth, The Good Dinosaur follows a lovable Apatosaurus named Arlo on a life-changing adventure. With the help of his human friend, a little boy named Spot, Arlo learns to overcome his fears and see his potential. The one hour and thirty-two minute animated film features the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Jack Bright, Jeffery Wright, Steve Zahn, AJ Buckley, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliott and Frances McDormand. The PG comedic adventure is playing in conventional and 3D theaters.
A classic tale gets a facelift with Victor Frankenstein. A scientist and his assistant experiment with immortality by creating a monster with human pieces. The PG-13 dramatic horror film stars James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. It runs for one hour and fifty minutes.
A Danish painter comes to terms with his sexuality in The Danish Girl. When the married man becomes the substitute female model for his wife’s painting, he awakens his true self, which he kept dormant his whole life. Set in the 1920’s, the two hour drama is based on the true story of transgender painter, Lili Elbe, the first known person to undergo sex reassignment surgery. The limited released biopic stars Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander and Amber Heard. It’s rated R for sex and nudity. The film expands to more theaters in December.
The remakes continue next week with the release of a new version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Youth and Krampus are two wide release films also hitting theaters on December 4.
