Gretchen becomes obsessed with her neighbors, an older couple, Lexi and Rob, who act similar to her and Jimmy. They seem to be a well put-together couple married with a kid. It’s what Gretchen and Jimmy could be in about 10 years if they get their lives together.
Jimmy reminds everyone (mostly Gretchen and Edgar) about how he’s in the middle of his writing process, even though he’s not writing; he’s drinking beer and playing darts. He asks Gretchen to mail him letters that remind him of horrible life events if he does not stay on deadline with writing his book.
Gretchen sneaks into the store where the Lexi and Rob’s nanny is watching their daughter, Harper. It seems like Gretchen was considering kidnapping the kid. Instead, she just gave her back to the nanny.
All of a sudden, Lexi and Rob’s dog, Sandwiches, is missing. Apparently, Gretchen stole their pug to take it on a run and socialize with other dog people. She’s even pretending to be Lexi. Gretchen’s actions are a loud cry for help.
Gretchen does return their dog so she has an excuse to meeting Lexi and Rob. They admit to Gretchen that they have no idea what they are doing with life. They are not as perfect as they seem to be. Rob confides to Gretchen that he is desperate to be young again like Gretchen and Jimmy. He also ask Gretchen to have an affair with him.
Jimmy is delighted to meet Lexi and Rob, while Gretchen is left sobbing at the end of the evening.
