Pitcher Zack Greinke opted out of his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.

According to the Associated Press, Greinke had three years left on his contract and gives up a guaranteed $71 million. He had the right to terminate his contract for three days after the World Series ended.

Greinke and 12 other players have become free agents recently. A total of 151 players are now free agents.

Greinke signed a six-year, $147 million contract with the Dodgers after the 2012 season. He is a three-time All-Star and is a favorite for the Cy Young award in the National League. This season, he had a 1.66 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP, which led the majors, according to ESPN. The 1.66 ERA is the second best ERA in Dodgers history, behind Rube Marquard’s 1.58 in 1916. He had a 19-3 record this season.

It will be interesting to see where Greinke ends up next year. He will likely earn more than what was left on his contract when he gets a new deal.
The Dodgers made the playoffs this year but were eliminated by the New York Mets in the National League Divisional Series.
