ABC Family will look really different on Jan. 12. In fact, the home of Pretty Little Liars, Young & Hungry and Baby Daddy will have a completely different name.
The network announced on Thursday that it will officially switch to Freeform on Tuesday, Jan. 12. That’s the same night that Pretty Little Liars returns and the night Shadowhunters premieres.
The name change was announced in October and comes as its programming has evolved towards a more teen audience. Freeform will target the 14-34 demographic
“The Freeform brand represents the passion, fun, energy and new ideas that infuse young adulthood,” ABC Family President Tom Ascheim said in a statement. “We’ve been evolving naturally for a while now, so it’s time that our name reflects the true essence of our brand. We are excited to take our network in some new directions and continue to evolve alongside culture while delivering those favorite shows our viewers already love.”
ABC Family... ahem, Freeform... also announced that The Forsters will return on Monday, Jan. 25. Recovery Road will debut on the same night. The sitcoms Young & HungryBaby Daddy will come back on Feb. 3.
The network has already started work on new shows that will reflect its changes. The supernatural series Beyond, thriller Guilt from the creators of Once Upon a Time and the reality series The Letter are all in development. Rapper Nicki Minaj is also developing a series inspired by her life. Switched At Birth, Stitchers and Monica The Medium are all coming back, too.
