Authorities said that an alleged ISIS supporter has been indicted on charges that he planned to detonate homemade pipe bombs at last season’s Super Bowl XLIX in Phoenix, Arizona.
According to dbtechno, Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem, also known as Decarus Thomas, was charged with conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He was also indicted earlier this year on weapons charges after allegedly helping two gunmen attempt an attack at a May event in Garland, Texas, where artists were drawling a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed.
Kareem’s indictment claims that he watched several videos“depicting jihadist violence and apparent wartime footage in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East” as well as “torture and executions” by ISIS followers. He is also suspected of then trying to encourage others to attack the U.S.
The two other men, Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, who are suspected of conspiring with Kareem in the Texas attack were killed by an off-duty police officer.
