Amazon announced this morning that it has renewed The Man in the High Castle for a second season. The Ridley Scott-produced series also broke the record for the most-streamed original show on Amazon Prime Instant Video.

The Man in the High Castle is based on a Philip K. Dick novel, which is set in an alternate world where Japan and Germany won World War II and have split up the U.S. into two occupied territories. It was developed by Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files) and stars Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank and DJ Qualls.

The show is executive produced by Scott’s Scott Free Productions with David Zucker and Isa Dick Hackett.

While Amazon pulled a very Netflix-esque move by not announcing specific audience numbers, the company did say that The Man in the High Castle is now the most-watched original Amazon series. It broke a record held by Bosch.

“We’re very proud of this outstanding series created by Frank Spotnitz, Scott Free and Isa Dick Hackett, which Amazon customers around the world have enthusiastically embraced, and we look forward to the second season,” Roy Price, Vice President, Amazon Studios, said in a statement. “We hoped that once again bringing together the work of Philip K. Dick and the vision of Ridley Scott – who brought us the classic film Blade Runner – would help deliver on our promise of creating some of the best television in the world for Prime customers, and we believe that it has.”

The Man in the High Castle did earn some controversy last month when Amazon decided that it was a good idea to use Nazi and Imperial Japan imagery to promote the movie on a New York subway car. Amazon later pulled the advertising.
