Bones is now involved in more drama behind the scenes than on the small screen. The longest-running show in Fox’s history is the center of two lawsuits, with producers and stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz claimed they’ve been missing out on millions of dollars.
The drama started on Nov. 25, when executive producer Barry Josephson filed a lawsuit against Fox and the studio behind the show, 20th Century Fox TV. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josephson claims that Fox made “unrelenting efforts” to cut him out of his share of the profits. He adds that Fox executive Peter Rice and other executives “fraudulently threatened” him to take lover license fees of the show would be cancelled.
Josephson’s lawsuit was filed in Los angeles Superior Court and asks for unspecified damages for breach of contract and other claims.
Today, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Deschanel, Boreanaz and executive producer Kathy Reichs, whose novels inspired the show, also sued Fox for similar claims. Reichs claims that she was promised 5 percent of the profits, while the actors say they were promised 3 percent.
“Plaintiffs bring this action to enforce their rights to these payments that they are rightfully owed, which they estimate to collectively exceed tens of millions of dollars,” the lawsuit reads, notes Deadline.
Bones is currently in its 11th season, but has been off the air since Nov. 19. It will be back on Thursday, Dec. 10 for its two-hour fall finale. Even though Fox announced its midseason schedule on Nov. 12, it has yet to say when Bones will be back.
