Remember how Daniel Craig supposedly had a cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but then he said he didn’t? Well, it turns out that he really did... and it was awesome.
Back in May, Simon Pegg, who has his own cameo in the film behind a mask, said that the James Bond actor plays a Stormtrooper. But in July, Craig sounded really angry that someone would even dream of him playing an extra.
“Why would I ever bother doing something like that? F**king hell! Pffft,” Craig told Entertainment Weekly in July. “Play an extra in another movie?”
But now that the movie is in theaters already, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Craig really is in The Force Awakens as a Stormtrooper. Pegg wasn’t pulling our legs!
If you still haven’t seen the movie, don’t read beyond this point.
During one of the film’s best scenes, Rey (Daisy Ridley) tries out a Jedi mind trick on a Stormtrooper in Starkiller Base. “You will remove these restraints and leave this cell with the door open,” Rey commands the trooper, who is actually played by Craig. At first, the trick doesn’t work, but eventually it does.
While Disney was filming The Force Awakens in Pinewood, production was still going on for Spectre, which is why Craig was available to make a cameo.
Who would have thought that Craig’s biggest movie of the year would be The Force Awakens instead of Spectre?
