The Lion Guard, Disney’s The Lion King sequel series, finally has a debut date. The first episode will air on Friday, Jan. 15 at 9:30 a.m. on the Disney Channel.
The Lion Guard series comes after last month’s made-for-TV movie The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar. The film was a big hit, becoming the top primetime cable TV broadcast among the 2-5 demographic. It was even a hit in the 18-49 demographic and has earned over 1 million views on the WATCH Disney Channel and WATCH Disney Junior apps.
The new series is about Kion, Simba’s second cub, and his adventures with his friends. The voice cast includes Rob Lowe, Gabrielle Union, Blair Underwood, Ana Gasteyer and Maia Mitchell. Proving that Disney hasn’t forgotten about the other Lion King sequels, Andy Dick, Jason Marsden and Lacey Chabert have been recruited to voice their The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride characters.
Return of the Roar will be available on DVD on Feb. 23. The Lion Guard will also air on Disney Junior.
