Donald Trump does not like the idea that politicians are expected to go to debates and not be paid. So, with another debate coming up on CNN, the real estate mogul has demanded that the network pay him $5 million to appear.
Trump made the threat at an event in Macon, Georgia, reports NBC News. He said that he would donate the funds to Wounded Warriors.
“How about I tell CNN, who doesn't treat me properly ... I'm not gonna do the next debate, okay?” Trump told the crowd. “I won't do the debate unless they pay me $5 million, all of which goes to Wounded Warriors or goes to vets.”
CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker appeared at the Paley Center for Media for an interview with Buzzfeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith on Wednesday and turned down Trump’s request. He said that the network does not pay candidates to show up at debates.
Back in September, Trump also demanded that CNN donate profits of debates to veterans groups.
The next debate is at The Venetian in Las Vegas on Dec. 15. CNN won’t have another GOP debate until March 10.
