20th Century Fox has just released the first trailer for their new superhero film 'X-Men: Apocalypse.'
The footage, posted on the studio's official YouTube channel this morning, features our first look at many of the trilogy's new characters including Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), young Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and of course Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac). Also shown in the trailer is Jennifer Lawrence as a non-blue Mystique, but the reason for the color change is not yet clear.
In this latest installment of Fox's long running franchise, secret societies begin to pop up that believe in the power of the world's first mutant, an ancient being known as Apocalypse. This being arrives and imbues four followers with his power, in this case Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Angel (Ben Hardy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender).
Also briefly seen in this trailer is Evan Peters as Quicksilver, who stole the show in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' despite only appearing in a few scenes. Peters is given top billing in 'Apocalypse' and will have a much larger role this time around.
'X-Men: Apocalypse' is expected to be the end of the trilogy that began with 'First Class' in 2011. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will not return, but Hugh Jackman will appear as Wolverine. The film hits theaters on May 26, 2016.
