The Friday the 13th reboot has just added a brand new screenwriter.

According to Variety, Aaron Guzikowski is in negotiations to write the next Friday the 13th. Guzikowski is mainly known for writing the Hugh Jackman thriller Prisoners. He also wrote the Mark Wahlberg action film Contraband, and he is attached to Universal's reboot of The Wolf Man as well.

If you've been following this new Friday the 13th, the first question you're probably asking is, "They're just now hiring a writer?" The development of this horror sequel has been a slow process, and it was originally scheduled to come out in November 2015. It was then delayed to May 2016, and finally pushed once again to January 2017.

The movie had also originally hired screenwriter Nick Antosca (Haninbal), who turned in a draft back in March. It's unclear if Antosca has been completely replaced or if Guzikowski is simply being brought in to take another pass at the existing screenplay.

Friday the 13th has also lost its director, reports TheWrap. It was going to be directed by David Bruckner (The Signal), but he just left.

According to producer Brad Fuller, the new film might explore why exactly Jason is immortal. This will be the 13th installment in the franchise, but it will have no continuity with the previous movies.
