'Star Wars' creator George Lucas has officially seen 'The Force Awakens,' and he thinks fans won't be disappointed.

After being honored for his achievements in arts and culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, Lucas briefly confirmed he has seen the new 'Star Wars,' and he delivered his verdict on the movie.

“I think the fans are going to love it,” he said. “It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

Lucas famously sold 'Star Wars' to Disney for $4 billion, and though he offered his suggestions for 'The Force Awakens,' the studio opted to go in a different direction. Lucas decided he would stay out of it and let J.J. Abrams do his own thing, noting that they "weren't that keen to have me involved anyway."

He also recently compared the experience of seeing 'The Force Awakens' as going to an awkward wedding of a grown child even though your ex will be there. Lucas originally intended to direct 'Episode VII' himself and then sell Lucasfilm to Disney after that. Instead, he has absolutely no involvement with any of the new 'Star Wars' films, and he had not seen a single frame of 'The Force Awakens' until this recent screening.

'The Force Awakens' hits theaters on December 18.
