The season three finale of Hannibal ended on a massive cliffhanger, and now the show's creator is providing a bit of a tease towards what might come next.
In an interview with Screencrush, Bryan Fuller discussed the finale's post-credits scene where Bedelia sits at the table with her cooked leg, and he very casually revealed that it was Hannibal himself who prepared the meal. That's right: Hannibal officially survived the fall.
When asked to clarify that he really did confirm Hannibal cooked Bedelia's leg, something fans have been speculating about for months, Fuller said, "Oh yeah, yeah. But the fun of it is, people have interpreted it the other way that she cut off her own leg and cooked it herself. And that’s also fun. So I think you can choose your own ending, until you are proven definitely wrong."
Still, although it's technically open to interpretation and you can choose to believe Hannibal died at the end of the final episode, Fuller's intention was to heavily imply he is still alive.
Fuller has also recently provided some insights into the future of the show, which was cancelled by NBC due to poor ratings. No network or streaming service picked it up and the actors moved on to other projects, so it seems like Hannibal is dead for now. However, Fuller teased the idea of returning for more in a few years' time.
"There’s so many options down the road, but I think the best option right now is to let the show resonate and perhaps approach things in a British way and take some time off then re-approach," Fuller said.
If they did re-approach Hannibal, Fuller's ultimate goal would be to head towards the storyline of The Silence of the Lambs. Don't get too excited, though, as the showrunner noted that any more Hannibal would be at least two years away, and even that seems pretty optimistic.
