Arnold Peralta, a soccer player on the Honduras national team was shot and killed at a shopping mall while on vacation in the country on Thursday.

Sporting news noted that the grim announcement of Peralta’s death was confirmed by the professional club Deportivo Olimpia.

Authorities said that the 26-year-old was fatally shot outside the Uniplaza Mall in La Ceiba. They also vowed that while there are no suspects currently in custody, they are working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the person or persons responsible.

"We won't rest until those responsible for this act are identified and detained so that they can face justice," government officials said.

Prior to playing for Olimpia, Peralta was the midfielder for Deportivo Vida as well as the Scotland’s Rangers and played in the 2014 World Cup.

The Rangers posted a message expressing sadness on Twitter and said that the team will have a moment of silence for Peralta before its match with Greenock Morton F.C. on Saturday.
