Radio shock jock Howard Stern and SiriusXM are staying in business for a long time. He signed a 12-year deal with the satellite radio network on Tuesday. Stern will also help SiriusXM get into the original video market.
The deal, which Sterna announced during his show, keeps The Howard Stern Show going for the next five years. It will be broadcast exclusively on the Howard 100 channel, which Stern will continue to produce.
The bulk of the deal though is a partnership between SiriusXM and Howard Stern Productions to use Stern’s vast library to help launch video programming. Specific plans for video were not announced yet.
“As a broadcaster, it does not get better than working at SiriusXM and I'm truly excited for the future with this great company," Stern said in a statement. "I happen to think that its best days are ahead. So, if you are not listening to SiriusXM and The Howard Stern Show, then you are really more like a zombie, a rotting corpse monster, living half a life, deadened and blackened inside. It's as if you were still watching black and white television while shopping in actual stores on your way to the post office to fax a memo."
Stern will have much more time to devote to SiriusXM after he left NBC’s America’s Got Talent. The network announced in October that Simon Cowell will replace Stern as a judge for the summer 2016 season.
