Gigi Does It, IFC’s little-watched comedy, has been canceled after just one season.

David Krumholtz, star of the show and also its executive producer, tweeted the cancellation announcement on Saturday. Gigi Does It had an eight-episode run, with its finale coming on Nov. 16.

The comedy starred Krumholtz as Gertrude Rotblum, an old woman living in Florida who seeks to experience more out of life after coming into a sum of money. Season one of Gigi had focused on Krumholtz's character getting out of her shell and seeking romance.

Gigi Does It got the axe due to its low viewer numbers. Its season finale only drew 42,000 adult 18-49 viewers and 102,000 total viewers overall, reports TV By The Numbers. The show never got much momentum, as it was originally slotted at Thursday for its first three weeks and struggled to maintain a consistent viewership.

It remains to be seen if Benders, another new IFC comedy starving for views, will get the cancellation axe, according to Deadline. Gigi and Benders were both at the bottom of viewership counts among scripted cable series rankings during their original airings, but Benders had slightly more viewers.

Regardless, the cancellation of Gigi marks an unceremonious end to the once-promising show that reportedly took Krumholtz 4 1/2 hours of make up to transform him into the elderly widow.

“I’m very separate from the character; it’s more fun being her,” Krumholtz said in July. “It’s hard to drop her at the end of the day when they take off the makeup."

With Gigi canceled, however, it looks like Krumholtz will have to look elsewhere for a leading role.
