Lionsgate isn't ready to let go of the Hunger Games franchise, but the series' lead thinks it's too soon for any more movies.
In an interview with Variety, Lawrence was asked to comment on the news that Hunger Games prequels may be on the way.
“I wouldn’t be involved,” she said. “I think it’s too soon. They’ve got to let the body get cold, in my opinion.”
Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns recently said that although Mockingjay - Part 2 was marketed as the end of the series, The Hunger Games could go "on and on" like Harry Potter. He's referring to the fact that the Harry Potter franchise is about to continue with the upcoming prequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Burns also noted that if the studio were to produce any prequels, they would follow a Hunger Games competition in an arena, something the last two films in the series did not have.
Suzanne Collins has not written any additional Hunger Games books, so these potential prequels would not be based on preexisting material.
