Jimmy Kimmel had Donald Trump on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night and it was a surprisingly serious discussion with the Republican presidential candidate. Kimmel asked Trump specifically about his controversial plan to temporarily ban Muslims from the U.S.
After Trump explained that he has Muslim friends who support this plan, Kimmel asked him, “But isn’t it un-American and wrong to discriminate against people based on their religion?”
“But Jimmy,” Trump began as the audience began applauding. Trump then said, “I’m for it,” before continuing.
“Look, we have people coming into our country that are looking to do tremendous harm,” Trump said.
The real estate mogul explained that he wants to find out what the problem is and fix it. He again said that he has had “so many people” call him and say “thank you” for his plan.
Kimmel suggested that they may have been “crank calls,” but Trump dismissed that. Trump also said that he doesn’t buy the argument that his plan could be used as a recruitment tool by ISIS or other groups.
