After less than two years at the network, Josh Elliott is leaving NBC Sports. The former Good Morning America co-anchor has not picked a new job yet.

“I'm grateful for the chance to work with the remarkable team at NBC Sports, and appreciate their support as I look forward to what's next,” Elliott said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Josh and NBC Sports mutually decided to part ways, and we wish him the best of luck in the future,” NBC added.

Elliott surprisingly left ABC in March 2014, even though he was a major part of GMA’s success when it broke The Today Show’s 16-year ratings winning streak. He had been a part of the Disney family since 2004, beginning on ESPN. He joined GMA in 2011.

It’s possible that Elliott has realized that the large role former Today executive Jamie Horowitz had planned for him would never pan out. After all, Horowitz was forced out of Today before his tenure was even set to begin. Elliott was also barely used by NBC Sports after his 2014 Kentucky Derby debut.

THR suggests that Elliott might go to Fox Sports, where Horowitz, a former ESPN executive, is now based.
