A lot of Star Trek fans weren't happy with the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, and now the movie's director has responded to these complaints.
During a roundtable discussion, Justin Lin reminded viewers that what they saw is just a very small excerpt from a two-hour movie and they should withhold judgment until next summer.
"But with trailers you’re putting a two-hour movie into a minute and a half, and the one thing I wanted to make sure is that it hopefully represents that we are trying to be bold and take risks, whether we are successful or not, I don’t know," Lin said.
Many fans were bothered by the fact that Beyond looks like a Mission: Impossible style action film rather than the cerebral Star Trek story they were hoping for. Lin acknowledged that the footage might make it seem that way, saying that he watched it and thought, "You really have to put the motorcycle in there? So I get it, I get it, I get it."

Star Trek Beyond opens on July 22, 2016.
