The Los Angeles Angels acquired third baseman Yunel Escobar in a trade with the Washington Nationals on Thursday.
According to USA Today, the Nationals got right-handed reliever Trevor Gott and a minor league prospect in the trade.
Escobar will make $7 million next year. He has a team option for $7 million for 2017.
Escobar was a shortstop for the Atlanta Braves before going to the Nationals. He can play multiple infield positions, which gives the Nationals flexibility if they re-sign third baseman David Freese. This year, he hit .314 with nine home runs and 56 RBIs in his only season with the Nationals, according to ESPN. Escobar has a .281 average with 78 home runs and 449 RBIs in his nine-year career.
Gott was 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 48 relief appearances with the Angels this year. He becomes the latest addition to the Nationals bullpen.
On Tuesday, the Nationals signed free-agent reliever Shawn Kelley to a three-year, $15 million deal. Kelley was 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA with the San Diego Padres this year.
