Memphis Grizzlies guard Matt Barnes was suspended for two games by the NBA on Monday for an altercation with New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher.
The altercation happened on Oct. 3 in Los Angeles at the home of Barnes' ex-wife. Barnes went to his ex-wife, Gloria Govan’s, house to see his six-year old twin sons. Fisher, who has been with the Knicks for two seasons, was there visiting Govan. Barnes confronted Fisher and there was a physical altercation and police were called but no charges were filed, according to ESPN.
The NBA investigated the incident and no punishment is expected for Barnes and Fisher. Fisher has discussed the incident with Knicks president Phil Jackson.
Barnes was acquired by the Grizzlies in June in a trade. He has played in 33 games with the Grizzlies. This season, he has averaged 8.6 points and five rebounds, according to the Associated Press. Barnes will serve his suspension on Tuesday and Saturday.
The Grizzlies are 17-16 and play the Miami Heat (18-11) on Tuesday.
