A brand new Bourne movie with Matt Damon is on the way and the actor has just provided an exciting update on the production.

In an interview with Variety, Damon said the new movie is about halfway done. He said that they started production in September and are going dark for most of December to cut the first two acts. Then in early 2016 they'll be shooting the third act and anything else they need.

Damon explained that the new Bourne will take place 12 years after the events of The Bourne Ultimatum and Jason Bourne has been in hiding that entire time. The actor said he always wanted to do another installment, but he just wasn't sure until recently where the story could go.

"I hoped I wasn’t [finished playing Bourne] because I really liked the franchise and the character but I didn’t see a way to go," he said. "But I wasn’t giving up on the idea of doing it. Paul and I kind of talked years ago about perhaps the way forward was just to let time pass and allow the world to change a little."

The untitled fifth Bourne film will be directed by Paul Greengrass, who directed the second and third films in the series. Damon has previously said the story will reflect a post-Snowden world.

The movie will open on July 29, 2016.
