McDonald’s has been trying to keep up with the competition for quite some time by doing everything from switching to healthier ingredients to tweaking its menu options and now they are testing out the ultimate comfort food … mac and cheese.

CNN reported that the fast food giant has been testing out and serving up macaroni and cheese at 18 of its restaurants in Ohio since the summer.

"We're always looking for new ways to offer relevant tastes to our customers, so we're giving mac and cheese a try and gathering valuable feedback from our customers,” McDonald's spokeswoman Lisa McComb said.

This new menu option can be purchased as an entrée with a Happy Meal for $3 or as a side for $1.75.

As for its nutrition facts, the company said that one four-ounce portion is less than 200 calories and has five grams of protein.

The new item could be heading to your market in the near future so if you are a fast food and mac and cheese lover this sounds like a match made in heaven for you.
