Michelle Dockery’s fiance, John Dineen, dies at 34

Michelle Dockery’s fiance, John Dineen, died Sunday following a long illness. He was only 34 years old.

Dineen was being treated at a hospice in Ireland, reports ITV News. The funeral will be on Wednesday.

“The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private,” a rep for Dockery told ITV News.

According to People, Dineen was fighting a rare form of cancer after being diagnosed earlier this year. He was a senior director at the London-based consulting firm FTI. The Irish Independent reported that he also traveled to Germany to receive experimental treatment.

Dockery and Dineen began dating in September 2013 after actor and fellow Downton Abbey co-star Allen Leech introduced them.

Dockery turns 34 today. She was recently on a promotional tour for the final season of Downton Abbey and plays Lady Mary Crawley on the series.
