After what is now known as the biggest mistake in pageant history and the blunder heard around the world, Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines have both spoken about Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe mishap.
As we previously reported, Harvey accidentally announced the wrong winner out of the two ladies it was down to at the end of the pageant. Harvey announced the Miss Universe winner was Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, who received the crown and did a celebratory walk. But a moment later, the host apologized and explained that Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was actually the winner. As stunned Wurtzbach walked to where Gutierrez was and received the crown.
It would be almost understandable if Miss Colombia was a little bitter right after the pageant, but her comments following what just happened furthered proved her grace to everyone.
In a video posted to Twitter after the crown was taken off her head, Gutierrez said “Everything happens for a reason. I'm happy! I'm happy for all what I did to [reach] this dream. Thank you all, thank you for voting for me."
Miss Philippines also spoke about what was going through her mind when Harvey explained the gaffe.
"I was confused. I wasn't sure what was going on," Wurtzbach said. "I didn't expect that to happen at all."
As for Harvey, he apologized repeatedly to everyone involved and continued to own up to his human mistake.
