The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Kickstarter has officially ended, and it has set an all new crowdfunding record.

The campaign to bring back the classic 1990s comedy series has raised $5.7 million, making it the most successful Kickstarter in the film/TV category ever. That record was previously held by the Veronica Mars movie from 2013. Behind that is the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign, which raised $5.4 million.

In addition to the money donated by fans, Joel Hodgson was also able to raise $600,000 on his own, bringing the total budget of the new series to $6.3 million. That's enough to guarantee a full 13-episode season in addition to a holiday special.

The Mystery Science Theater reboot will feature a new cast with Patton Oswalt, Felicia Day, Hampton Yount, Baron Vaughn and Jonah Ray as the show's host. In addition, a variety of well-known writers will be joining for select episodes including Rick and Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, Ready Player One author Ernest Cline and Lego Movie 2 director Rob Schrab.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 will return in 2016.
