We're living in an age when every classic show is making a return, and Samurai Jack is the latest to be brought back from the dead.
Adult Swim announced today that an all new season of Samurai Jack will premiere on the Toonami block in 2016. The announcement was made in a five second YouTube video posted on the network's channel, which basically reveals nothing other than that the project is happening.
Most promising of all is that unlike some cartoon reboots that don't involve the original creator, Genndy Tartakovsky is back on board for this new season. He has previously discussed his desire to make more, telling ComicBook.com earlier this year that it's time to finally finish the story.
Samurai Jack aired on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004. It was cancelled at the end of the fourth season due to low ratings, but it has gained something of a cult following in the years since going off the air. Adult Swim began showing reruns of the cartoon during its Toonami block back in 2014.
This is another Cartoon Network show that is being revived next year, along with Powerpuff Girls. Unfortunately, all of the original voice actors for that show have been recast, a decision which Tara Strong (Bubbles) called "a stab in the heart."
