New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was suspended for one game by the NFL on Monday.
The suspension is a result of Beckham’s actions during Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. As we previously reported, Beckham wasn’t happy with Panthers cornerback Josh Norman and made a helmet-to-helmet hit on Norman after a play. Beckham was flagged three times on Sunday for personal fouls.
"He was 15 yards down the field and went straight for my head. It was just crazy, man," Norman said of Beckham’s hit. "He's got the maturity of a little kid."
Beckham’s problem with the Panthers reportedly started before the game on Sunday. A player from the Panthers practice squad brought a baseball bat on the field before the game and reportedly made threatening remarks to Beckham with it, according to ESPN. The Panthers have said that they use the bat as a motivational symbol.
Beckham was the Offensive Rookie of the Year for 2014. He had six catches for 72 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. This season he has 91 catches for 1,396 yards and 13 touchdowns, which is tied for the league lead, according to the Associated Press.
The Giants lost the game 38-35. The Panthers are now 14-0 and the Giants are 6-8 and need to win their final two games and have some help to make the playoffs.
