Rambo will be making the jump from film to television in Rambo: New Blood.
According to Deadline, Fox has closed a deal to develop a TV show based on the hit action movie franchise. New Blood will be a father/son story following the complex relationship between Rambo and his son, an ex-Navy SEAL. Sylvester Stallone is expected to reprise his role as the famous war veteran.
Writer Jeb Stuart, known for co-writing the original Die Hard, has signed on for the show. Unlike some reboots in which the older generation characters only make brief appearances, Rambo is expected to be a main character in this series. New Blood will be produced by eOne and Millenium films, with Stallone serving as executive producer.
This project appears to have taken the place of the long discussed fifth Rambo movie, which had been given the title Rambo: Last Blood. That would have apparently been Rambo's final battle, although perhaps the film could still happen after the TV series has wrapped.
The Rambo franchise has not seen an installment in seven years, but the most recent film grossed a relatively disappointing $42 million domestically. However, Stallone's return to the Rocky series in Creed has been a much bigger success, already taking home $42 million domestically in its first weekend alone.
