After the trailer for Star Trek Beyond came out earlier this week, some Star Trek fans were left a bit shocked by the constant action during the one-and-a-half-minute video. It turns out that Simon Pegg, who stars in it and co-wrote it, wasn’t a fan of what Paramount did either.
In an interview with the British site Hey U Guys at the London Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere, Pegg said that he didn’t like the focus on the action.
“It was surprising,” Pegg told the site. “I found it to be, kind of... marketing people sort of saying, ‘Everybody come and see this film. It’s full of action and and fun,’ when there’s a lot more to it than that. I didn’t love it because I know there’s a lot more to the film.”
Pegg also said that the film has much more about the characters and “Star Trek stuff.” The actor added that Star Trek fans have to be patient because the early trailer is just meant to attract a wide audience.
Star Trek Beyond is being directed by Justin Lin, who is best known for helming a few of the Fast & Furious movies, and hits theaters on July 22, 2016.
