For all those who thought Steve Harvey would never be asked back to host another Miss Universe pageant after his infamous blunder of announcing the wrong winner, think again. The comedian has reportedly signed a deal to host the pageant for several more years.
According to ET, sources have said that Harvey actually signed a multi-year deal to host the contest prior to this year’s mistake heard around the world and despite that gaffe will be returning as host. A source with knowledge of the situation has said that Harvey’s deal is for more than any Miss Universe host has ever been paid and runs between three and seven years.
On Sunday, during the live broadcast of the pageant Harvey announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, won the contest when she was actually the first runner-up and Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was the winner. After Miss Colombia received the crown, Harvey apologized and admitted to the mistake.
The 58-year-old has since apologized to everyone involved, but the mishap brought the pageant more attention than it would ever have had otherwise. And if the reported deal is true, Harvey who took so much heat for the mistake, actually comes out a winner as well.
