Authorities in Israel have arrested and questioned model Bar Refaeli over alleged tax evasion.
According to the Jerusalem Post, tax officials in Tel Aviv grilled the 30-year-old and her mother, Zipora, as part of their investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
Investigators allege that Refaeli failed to report income she earned while working overseas. They also claim that the model was delinquent in reporting “celebrity perks” she had gotten as well.
The AFP noted that Israel’s Tax Authority has said that the amount of benefits she received could total “over a million shekels” ($257,000 U.S.).
Refaeli, who married Israeli billionaire Adi Ezra in September, has disputed the status of her residency.
"We contend that this is a civil problem regarding the topic of who is an Israeli citizen and everything that is associated with this," as statement on behalf of the model and her mother read.
Both women were released on bail, but had to surrender their passports as they cannot leave the country without approval for 180 days.
