Authorities have identified the man who they believe shot and wounded an employee in a busy Long Island shopping mall.
Newsday reported that officials said Oliver Lee, 21, is the suspected gunman who attempted to rob the Tourneau watch store in Roosevelt Field Mall around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
A 67-year-old Macy’s employee was hit in the shoulder outside the store by a stray bullet. That shot was fired during a struggle between the gunman and a security guard.
The New York Daily News noted that the guard who went after Lee, was retired NYPD officer Ken Krug.
“Armed perp was apprehended,” he posted on Facebook. “Say a prayer for the Macy’s employee.”
The sound of a gunshot sent the many holiday shoppers into panic mode and caused a bit of chaos. The mall was put on lockdown and schools nearby were also placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Lee faces charges of first-degree robbery, weapons possession and multiple assault charges. He is set to be arraigned Wednesday.
