With only a couple of days left of 2015, the list of Top 10 highest-grossing films is pretty much set in stone. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already the second-highest grossing film of 2015 in North America and it’s barely over $100 million behind Jurassic World.
The list, based on the data from Box Office Mojo, is packed with sequels and remakes. Only two films that aren’t sequels, remakes or spin-offs made it in and only one of those is an actual original idea.
Broken down by studio, Disney and Universal had the best year, owning seven of the 10 slots combined. Sony, 20th Century Fox and Lionsgate held the remaining three slots. Warner Bros. is nowhere to be found, as the studio struggled all year. Warner’s top-grossing film of the year was San Andreas, which came in at No. 19.
