The Grammys just put out a partial list of nominations for the 58th awards, scheduled for February 15, 2016. While Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift are predictably leading, the Best Dance Recording category has a few more out-of-left-field artists.
This year, the category’s nominations include "We're All We Need" by Above & Beyond Featuring Zoë Johnston; "Go" by the Chemical Brothers; "Never Catch Me" by Flying Lotus Featuring Kendrick Lamar; "Runaway (U & I)" by Galantis; and "Where Are Ü Now" by Jack Ü With Justin Bieber.
But Best Dance Recording has long been a joke category amongst electronic music aficionados. For one, nominations starting nearly 15 years ago never captured what was actually relevant in electronic music. That sort of started to change around 2005, with New Order, the Chemical Brothers, and Daft Punk receiving some recognition. Yet, playing off this, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake ended up with nominations – or even winning over legit dance performers.
So, as the Grammy puts out its list, we name some of the weirdest picks for this category.
