Just to make sure everyone knows that it is still happening, Showtime released a new teaser for the Twin Peaks revival.
The 50-second video announces that the long-awaited third season of the cult hit has started production. However, it reveals nothing about the show and only includes a voiceover about how the show’s location became a character in itself. We do see workers unveiling the “Welcome to Twin Peaks” sign. At the end, it says “Coming Soon.”
What exactly is “soon” is a relative term. While Showtime might consider a two-year wait “soon,” others probably don’t. Back in November, CBS chief Les Moonves confirmed that the new season will not air until 2017. Co-creator Mark Frost also said during the summer that the show will not begin until 2017.
Twin Peaks was originally supposed to air in 2016, which would have been the show’s 25th anniversary. The show originally ran for just two seasons on ABC from 1990 to 1991, and was followed by the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. It starred Kyle MacLachlan and was created by Frost and filmmaker David Lynch, who is going to direct every episode.
The production was held back a bit when Lynch had a contract dispute with Showtime, but the issue was quickly fixed because there was no way it could be made without his involvement.
