Vin Diesel is keeping his partnership with Universal alive, signing a deal with Universal Television and planning a Riddick television series.
The news isn’t completely surprising, because Diesel announced a Riddick TV series in November. However, Variety reports that the project will now be the first series under a partnership between Diesel’s One Race company and Universal TV.
One Race produced four of the seven Fast & Furious films, including the last three. The company also produced the second and third Riddick films. Both the Riddick movies and Fast & Furious movies were released by Universal.
“In addition to being a huge star for our feature division, Vin is a true creative force as a producer. After sitting down with him and his team at One Race Television, it’s clear he will now also be an incredible asset to both the network and our television studio,” Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment President, said in a statement. “We feel really fortunate to be in business with, not only an international powerhouse, but a truly thoughtful and passionate producer.”
One Race added Shana C. Waterman, Fox exec VP of event series, to oversee its television projects.
It’s not clear if Diesel will star in the Riddick show. The series began with 2000’s Pitch Black and continued with 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick. The most recent film was 2013’s Riddick. All three films were directed by David Twohy.
